This book, Al-Mutanabbi, contains the requirement for the fourth Text (literary option) of the final A-level, or A2, year.
It includes:
• A very brief introduction to Arab poetry.
• Explanations of many poetry features (types of bayān and badĪ‘), with examples.
• A brief account of the life and importance of al-MutanabbĪ.
• The poems (from the versions listed in Edexcel’s book list), presented in a new format: the poem, and a column for meanings of some of the difficult words, with line numbers.
• Explanations of selected lines from the poems (more than half the lines).
• After each poem, a piece outlining its main features; this includes important meanings, concepts and ideas and the major types of bayān and/or badĪ‘ that are present.
• Three essays, one for each poem, each on one selected line (and related lines), presented in mind-map format, and some with complete essays.
• Other essays discussing the conceptual features that are common to all three poems, such as praise or wisdom in al-MutanabbĪ’s poetry.
